Dermot Lanigan qualified from University College Galway in 1984. He did Pre-Fellowship training in Cork. Subsequently he obtained an MCh degree for research into the molecular biology of renal carcinoma at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. His higher surgical training was in the United Kingdom, initially in Plymouth and subsequently at Glasgow.
Having completed higher surgical training he worked as a consultant at The West Glasgow Hospitals University NHS Trust and as Clinical Senior Lecturer in Surgery at The University of Glasgow. He returned to The Bon Secours Hospital in Cork in 1997.
His clinical interests are in general/core urology and general paediatric urology.
