Mr Gerard A. Sheridan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee reconstruction surgery. He graduated with Honours as a Scholar from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 and was ranked number one in the country for the Higher Surgical Training Scheme in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Mr Sheridan completed two years of core surgical training, followed by six years of higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. He earned his Master of Surgery (MCh) in 2016 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI) in 2019 after passing the Intercollegiate FRCS examination in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in Healthcare Management and Clinical Education and is actively involved in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Mr Sheridan has completed three subspecialty fellowships, further enhancing his expertise in hip and knee surgery. He completed a fellowship at Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast, specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery. In 2021, he completed a one-year fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, where he gained experience in the full spectrum of hip and knee reconstructive surgery, winning the ‘resident’s prize’ for ‘Fellow of the Year’. In 2022, Mr Sheridan completed a fellowship in deformity correction and complex limb reconstruction at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, USA, where he was awarded the ‘Gavriil Award’ for ‘Excellence in Complex Limb Reconstruction Surgery’.
Mr Sheridan has a strong academic presence, having published 74 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters in the fields of hip and knee arthroplasty and complex limb reconstruction. He has received 12 research awards in Orthopaedics and 10 academic awards throughout his career. He is also an academic reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty.
Mr Sheridan specialises in hip and knee reconstruction surgery, including deformity correction and complex limb reconstruction. He is currently a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Galway University Hospital and Merlin Park University Hospital, and he also performs surgery at Bon Secours Health System in Galway.
