The importance of nurses at Bon Secours Health System

Nurses play a central role in delivering advanced medicine and exceptional care to our patients.

Our nursing staff work closely with other healthcare professionals to administer comprehensive care addressed to the specific needs of patients. They connect with doctors, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, and other team members to coordinate treatment plans, share important patient information, and provide a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare. This collaborative approach ensures the best possible care and outcomes for our patients.

Common responsibilities for nurses include medication management, monitoring patients' vital signs, assisting with medical procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, providing wound care, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of patient care areas, advocating for patients' needs and preferences, and educating patients and families about health conditions and treatments, following up with emotional support during challenging times. Nursing as a practice extends beyond medical tasks to encompass holistic patient care and support.

Mary Caldwell | Staff Nurse

Bon Secours Hospital Dublin

I’ve been a part of the Bons community for over 2 years now and in that time I have been given a range of opportunities to progress and develop my career. I started as a staff nurse in the Oncology department and advanced to the position of a Clinical Placement Coordinator in the Nurse Practice Development Unit. I have furthered my career by progressing onto the role of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 of the Childrens Ward. Throughout my time in the Bons I have been encouraged and guided in my career progression and supported in each new role. Community and a positive working culture are key to the Bons and I have been lucky enough to make some new life long friends throughout this journey.
