Joint Commission International (JCI)
Conduced every three years JCI identifies, measures and shares best practices in quality and patient safety with the world. JCI accreditation is currently held by our hospitals in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Tralee. In 2023, we became the first hospital in Ireland to achieve JCI Enterprise Accreditation.
HIQA
The commencement of the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023 on the 26 September 2024 enabled private hospitals to come under the regulation of HIQA. In addition to JCI accreditation, our hospitals also ensure compliance with the National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare. All our sites are subject to inspection from HIQA.
Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB)
The Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) conduct annual inspections of our laboratories to ensure compliance with ISO15189 standards and there is a legal requirement that all of our Labs operating a blood transfusion service are accredited.
Bariatric Accreditation
Bon Secours Hospital Cork is the only unit in Ireland to achieve a Centre of Excellence accreditation from the International Federation for the surgical treatment of obesity. In December 2022 the hospital underwent a re-accreditation survey. The report was issued in April 2023 with a successful outcome.
Joint Advisory Board (JAG)
JAG accreditation is awarded to endoscopy services who have been assessed and have demonstrated that they meet the JAG quality standards. These cover all aspects of an endoscopy service, ensuring that they: continually improve the quality and safety of the care provided. As part of our strategy for exception care, we aim to expand service specific standards to high volume and high-risk services. Bon Secours Hospital Dublin and Cork hold this accreditation.
Regulation of medical exposure to ionising radiation
From 8 January 2019, the EU Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom, which sets basic safety standards for protection arising from exposure to ionising radiation, has been transposed into Irish law. This legislation has designated HIQA as the independent competent authority for medical exposures. All of our sites are subject to inspection from HIQA.
ASCO certified
This new patient-centered cancer care certification program was created by the Association for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and demonstrates that our Cork Cancer Centre has a strong and enduring commitment to measuring the quality of cancer care delivery and to meeting national standards in quality and safety.
KeepWell Mark
The KeepWell Mark™ accreditation from Ibec demonstrates our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our employees. The KeepWell programme helps to ensure the highest standards of workplace health, wellbeing, and safety practices.
Investors in Diversity
Investors in Diversity (IiD) provides a clear and structured framework, with three levels designed to guide your organisation towards excellence. Using cutting-edge tools and services that measure and inform your organisation on workplace FREDIE™ (Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Engagement). Bon Secours Health System has held silver accreditation since 2023.
ISO 50001 certified
The international standard ISO 50001 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving energy management. Bon Secours Health System first achieved accreditation in 2017 and was recently successful in retaining the accreditation in 2024.
