Mr John Galbraith is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder, elbow, and hand surgery. He was appointed to University Hospital Galway in 2020 and offers a tertiary referral service for complex conditions in the shoulder, elbow, and hand. He also commenced his practice at Bon Secours Hospital Galway in 2020.
Mr Galbraith graduated with honours from University College Cork in 2007. Following his higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in Ireland, he completed several prestigious fellowships, including a one-year fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand. He then undertook the internationally renowned Dandenong Hand Fellowship in Melbourne, Australia, for one year, followed by a visiting fellowship focused on elbow reconstruction at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. In 2019, he successfully completed the European Board of Hand Surgery Diploma examination.
Mr Galbraith is actively involved in research, with over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests focus on biomechanics, and he completed his Doctor of Medicine thesis based on biomechanical research at University College Cork. He has continued his research during his time in Melbourne and New York, earning numerous national and international prizes for his work.
