Professor Stephen Kearns is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Foot and Ankle Surgery. He graduated with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1996. After completing higher surgical training in Orthopaedics and Trauma in Ireland, Prof. Kearns pursued fellowships in Adult Reconstructive Surgery in London, Ontario, and Foot & Ankle Surgery in Birmingham, UK.
Prof. Kearns has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading Foot and Ankle Surgeons, with a focus on osteochondral lesions of the ankle, lower limb joint replacement, tendon transplant, and reconstructive surgery. He has been actively involved in advancing Foot and Ankle surgery, applying innovative techniques and products in his practice. He currently holds the position of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Galway University Hospital and has worked in the private sector for the past ten years. Prof. Kearns is also an Honorary Lecturer at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
Research has been a key area of interest for Prof. Kearns throughout his career. He has published 55 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, with his work cited over 700 times. He has presented at more than 200 National, European, and International meetings. His current research interest is in the clinical application of basic science research, particularly in cartilage injury and adult reconstructive surgery
