About

Prof Kilian Walsh is an experienced Consultant Urologist who has been practising at University Hospital Galway and Bon Secours Hospital Galway since 2007. He specialises in a wide range of urological conditions, including bladder dysfunction, kidney and bladder cancer, female incontinence, and minimally invasive techniques for prostate disease. With a focus on advanced urological care, Prof Walsh has held prestigious appointments both in Ireland and abroad, including his previous position at Kings College Hospital, London, and practice privileges at the Lister Hospital Chelsea.

Education and Training

Prof Walsh graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) and completed his Basic Surgical Training in Dublin. In 1995, he moved to London where he pursued Higher Surgical Training in Urology, during which he completed his MSc Thesis in Prostate Cancer Detection. He was awarded Specialist Registration in Urological Surgery during this time.

In 2002, Prof Walsh furthered his expertise by completing a fellowship in Urological Reconstruction at the University of California, Davis. Upon returning to the UK, he held a Consultant appointment at Kings College Hospital and practiced at the Lister Hospital Chelsea from 2002 to 2007.

Clinical Expertise

Prof Walsh offers comprehensive urological care, specialising in bladder dysfunction, kidney and bladder cancer, female incontinence, and minimally invasive prostate disease treatments. He is a recognised expert in reconstructive urology, having gained specialist fellowship training in this field. His practice integrates advanced diagnostic and surgical techniques for prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Research and Contributions

Prof Walsh has an extensive research background and has been widely published in areas such as BPH surgery, prostate cancer, and urological reconstruction. He completed his MSc in Prostate Cancer Detection and continues to contribute to advancements in the field through his research and clinical practice.

Fellowship Training

Prof Walsh completed a fellowship in Urological Reconstruction at the University of California, Davis, under the mentorship of Professor Tony Stone. This fellowship focused on complex reconstructive urology, female urology, and urodynamics.
