About

Dr Adrian Gibbs is a Consultant Rheumatologist with a special interest in inflammatory arthritis, fibromyalgia, and soft tissue injuries. He has been practising in Galway since 2007 and operates a full-time private practice, offering expert care for a range of rheumatological and musculoskeletal conditions. Dr Gibbs is known for his patient-centred approach, focusing on providing rapid access to high-quality care for his patients.

Education and Training

Dr Gibbs studied medicine at University College Galway from 1991 to 1997. His postgraduate training began at University Hospital Galway, where he completed his intern and SHO years. After earning his MRCPI, he spent a year as a registrar in rheumatology at Beaumont Hospital. He then entered the Irish Specialist Registrar Scheme in Rheumatology, where he trained at Galway University Hospital, Letterkenny General Hospital, and St Vincent's University Hospital. His training also included three years of full-time clinical research.

Dr Gibbs specialises in treating conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, soft tissue injuries, fibromyalgia, and back pain. His practice includes a busy infusion unit where he provides advanced treatments, along with a wide-ranging joint and soft tissue injection service. Dr Gibbs is known for his efficient rapid access care model, ensuring that patients are seen promptly.

Research and Contributions

Dr Gibbs' research has focused on rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis. He has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and has been involved in numerous national and international clinical trials. His research has been presented at both Irish and international rheumatology conferences, highlighting his commitment to advancing the field.

Fellowship Training

Dr Gibbs completed his specialist training in rheumatology as part of the Irish Specialist Registrar Scheme, with placements at Galway University Hospital, Letterkenny General Hospital, and St Vincent's University Hospital. His training included three years of clinical research in rheumatology. After completing the programme, he began practising full-time as a Consultant Rheumatologist in January 2007.
