About

Jamie Martin-Smith is a consultant Plastic Surgeon with subspecialty interests in skin cancer, breast reconstruction and aesthetic breast & abdominal surgery.

Jamie graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2008 and completed the Irish plastic surgery specialty training in 2018. In 2015, he was awarded a Masters in Aesthetic Surgery by Queen Mary University London during which time he completed his research and dissertation on preventative strategies to reduce implant infection in breast augmentation.

Jamie took up his first consultant role in the world renowned cancer hospital, The Royal Marsden in Chelsea, London in 2018 following completion of a microvascular oncological reconstructive fellowship in the same unit. This consultant role involved reconstruction of major oncological defects including breast, limb, thoracic and perineal cases. His primary focus was microsurgical breast reconstruction. Jamie completed further aesthetic training with some of London's most well respected aesthetic and reconstructive surgeons  operating out of The London Clinic, The Lister Clinic and 108 Harley Street.

Jamie returned to Ireland in June 2019 to take up a permanent HSE consultant position in Beaumont and Connolly hospitals. He runs both a general plastics clinic managing the full spectrum of plastic surgical cases and a dedicated reconstructive breast surgery clinic. He is involved in surgical training in The Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and holds a senior clinical lecturer role. His primary research interests are focused on autologous breast reconstruction, perforator flap surgery and early recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways following reconstructive surgery.

Jamie has a specialist interest in breast reconstruction and aesthetic breast & abdominal surgery, specifically DIEP breast reconstruction. This is a type of breast reconstruction in which blood vessels called deep inferior epigastric perforators (DIEP), and the skin and fat connected to them are removed from the lower abdomen and used for reconstruction. Muscle is left in place.
