Dr Brian Egan is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with extensive experience in gastroenterology, hepatology, and internal medicine. He graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway, in 2001 and is currently listed on the Specialist Register of the Irish Medical Council. Dr Egan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and holds consultant positions at Mayo General Hospital and Galway University Hospital. In addition, he serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Clinical Medicine at University Hospital Galway.
Dr Egan completed his specialist training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Internal Medicine through the Irish Higher Medical Training Programme. He further advanced his expertise by completing fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia.
Dr Egan has a strong academic background, with numerous peer-reviewed publications in international journals. His research has focused on inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy, helicobacter pylori, and confocal laser endomicroscopy. As an Honorary Senior Lecturer, he continues to contribute to medical education and research in clinical medicine.
Dr Egan has a subspecialty interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer screening, complex polypectomy, hepatology, malabsorption, and coeliac disease. His expertise in these areas ensures high-quality care for patients with a wide range of gastroenterological conditions.
