Professor Colin Hawkes is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist with extensive experience in managing a wide range of hormone-related conditions in children and adolescents. His clinic welcomes referrals for all paediatric endocrine issues, including thyroid and adrenal disorders, hypoglycaemia, and diabetes. His primary clinical focus is on growth and puberty - supporting children with concerns such as short stature, delayed growth, early or late puberty, and related developmental challenges.
Professor Hawkes holds a PhD focused on disorders of growth, and has built his clinical practice around helping children reach their full potential in height, development, and wellbeing. Families from across Ireland and occasionally internationally attend his clinic for expert assessment and care in these areas. He completed subspecialty training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the top-ranked paediatric endocrinology centre in the United States, and was appointed as a Consultant there in 2015. In 2020, he returned home to Cork, where he now provides care through Cork University Hospital and his private clinic.
He also holds academic appointments as Associate Professor at University College Cork and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. His research has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and he is regularly invited to speak at international conferences in paediatric endocrinology.
His approach is grounded in clear, respectful communication with children and adolescents, particularly when addressing sensitive concerns around growth and puberty. He brings extensive experience in guiding families through these often challenging and emotionally complex issues.
