Mr Cullen is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who returned to practice following a Senior Clinical Fellowship at St. Albans and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore in 2018. He graduated from medical school in 2002, where he was on a rugby scholarship, and completed his orthopaedic training through the Irish Healthcare System and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 2016/2017.
Mr Cullen’s primary areas of clinical expertise include primary and revision hip and knee joint replacement surgery. His extensive training and fellowship experience have positioned him as a specialist in these areas, focusing on both trauma and reconstructive orthopaedic procedures.
Mr Cullen has an impressive background in postgraduate research, including a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from REMEDI/Galway University focused on osteoarthritis and stem cell research. He holds an honours degree by thesis in Healthcare Informatics from University College Dublin (UCD). His contributions to orthopaedic literature include several book chapters, seminars, and numerous peer-reviewed papers. He has presented his research at both national and international conferences and has been awarded several prestigious prizes, including the Cappagh National Orthopaedic Prize, the Merlin Gold Medal at the Freyer meeting in Galway, and the Best Basic Science and Best Clinical Research Paper in Orthopaedics at the Atlantic and Mayo meetings, respectively.
Mr Cullen continues to review for international publications such as the Journal of Arthroplasty.
Mr Cullen is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and is a member of several prestigious orthopaedic organisations. These include the Irish Orthopaedic Association, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, the European Orthopaedic Research Society, the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery, and Arthroscopy, and the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction.
