About

Dr. Kushal Chummun is an established Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist practicing at the Rotunda Hospital and Connolly Hospital. He has admitting privileges at the Mater Private, Bon Secours Hospital & Blackrock Women’s Health Centre. He provides obstetrics and the full range of benign gynaecology services, with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery.

Uniquely, Dr. Kushal is one of the very few gynaecologist in Ireland performing the complete spectrum of advanced gynaecological procedures—including operative hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, robotic surgery, vaginal surgery, and vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery). This versatility allows him to offer truly tailored, minimally invasive options that prioritise faster recovery, reduce pain and excellent outcome.

He graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2004. He completed his internship before pursuing a Master of Science in Biomolecular and Biomedical Research at the Conway Institute, where he was awarded first-class honours. Alongside his MSc, he also taught anatomy, reflecting his early dedication to medical education.

Dr. Kushal then successfully completed the highly competitive Irish specialist training scheme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, gaining extensive experience across the country, including Ireland’s four busiest maternity hospitals: the Rotunda, National Maternity, Coombe Women & Infants University, and Cork University Maternity Hospital. 

He went on to complete a fellowship in advanced pelvic surgery and gynaecological laparoscopy in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, as well as formal training in robotic gynaecology surgery in Cork University Hospital. To further refine his skills, he undertook observerships in Detroit, Sydney, and London.

Research and teaching have been central to his career, keeping him at the forefront of medical advances. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, contributes to postgraduate education, and serves as an Honorary Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. 

Dr Kushal serves as one of the Program Directors for the AAGL (American Association of Gynaecologic Laparoscopists) International Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery with the RCSI Group Hospitals. He plays a key role in training the next generation of MIGS Specialists to the standards set by the AAGL.
