Associate Professor Kieran Murray (MB BAO BCh, PhD, Msc SEM, MRCPI) graduated with Honours in Medicine from University College Dublin in 2010 and completed specialist training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in Dublin, Perth and Galway. He subsequently undertook an Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Early Arthritis at the internationally renowned Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.
He returned to Ireland in 2021 to take up a Consultant Rheumatologist position with the University of Limerick Hospitals Group and was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Limerick in 2024. Since commencing in the Mid West, he has founded an Early Arthritis Clinic with Point of Care Ultrasound and the Rheumatology Obstetric Service with a monthly clinic in University Maternity Hospital Limerick.
Associate Professor Murray has a strong academic and research background. He holds a PhD from St Vincent’s University Hospital/University College Dublin focused on rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis outcomes and has published widely in leading international journals. He also holds a Master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine from University College Cork, where his thesis examined alcohol use among intercounty GAA players.
He is actively involved in research and medical education and PhD supervision with the University of Limerick. His clinical interests include the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of arthritis, early inflammatory arthritis assessment, reproductive health and multidisciplinary care in rheumatic diseases.
Outside of medicine, he is a keen sports enthusiast, with particular interests in Gaelic football and rugby.
