About

Orlaith is a consultant gastroenterologist since 2016 and is currently Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology in Connolly Hospital and IBD Lead in Bon Secours Hospital Dublin. She graduated 1st in Medicine from RCSI in 2003, receiving HH Stewart National award for General Practice, Lyons Gold Medal for Medicine and William Wheeler Silver medal for Surgery.  She was RCSI Researcher of the year 2008 and was awarded a Ph D from RCSI for her research on bile acid effects on the colon in 2014.

Following completion of her specialist training in gastroenterology in Ireland, Orlaith undertook  fellowships in advanced inflammatory bowel disease care and research at the University of Toronto and Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada. She is a clinical senior lecturer (RCSI) and an honorary research associate leading many national and international research projects in IBD and other areas of gastroenterology. She is a graduate of the IOIBD Empowering Female Leadership in IBD program, class of 2026, one of 9 mentees picked globally.
