Dr Seamus J Murphy BSc (Hons), FRCP, PhD, AGAF is an experienced Gastroenterologist who worked for 25 years in the NHS in Northern Ireland. He entered full-time private practice in 2023 and is now based at Bon Secours Hospital, Dublin, and Kingsbridge Private Hospital, Belfast. He has an Outreach Clinic in Bon Secours Cavan, and in Dundalk.
He graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 1996 and trained in Gastroenterology in Northern Ireland and completed an Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York.
He completed a PhD in Genetics and Epidemiology, assessing risk factors for Oesophageal Cancer and Barrett's Oesophagus. He was Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas 2006-2007. His practice covers all aspects of general gastroenterology and liver disease and his specialist interests are inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy and Barrett's Oesophagus.

Dr Murphy has published more than forty research articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Murphy's clinical practice covers all general gastroenterology and general liver conditions, as well as endoscopy procedures. He has a special interest in IBD and endoscopy (Gastroscopy and colonoscopy), including removal of colon polyps - he was a nominated Bowel Cancer screening endoscopist from 2014 to 2023.
