The aim of the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) is to promote prompt and timely access to consultant-delivered assessments for patients referred by their GP. The service includes access to diagnostic testing where appropriate and allows patients to receive expert specialist review in a timely manner.
A GP referral is required and there are strict admission criteria.
The Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) at Bon Secours Hospital Cork is open from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
Below are the criteria a patient must meet to attend the Surgical Assessment Unit.

The following are the fees for the Surgical Assessment Unit at Bon Secours Hospital Cork:
Consult Fee: €165 – this fee applies whether admitted or not.
Diagnostic Fees are capped at €385 – only applies if not admitted.
Total Fees are capped at €550.
