Mr Derek B. Hennessey is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and kidney stone specialist with particular expertise in minimally invasive urological surgery. He is regarded as a regional specialist in the management of complex kidney stone disease, particularly percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), as well as surgery for pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO). He regularly receives referrals from across the region for the management of complex kidney stone disease and upper urinary tract reconstruction.

Mr Hennessey graduated in medicine from University College Dublin and completed higher surgical training in urology in Ireland and the United Kingdom. He holds an MD and PhD and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the European Board of Urology.

He practices privately at Bon Secours Hospital, Cork, and is also a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Mercy University Hospital. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at University College Cork and is actively involved in teaching and research in urology. He has published over 120 scientific articles on urological research.

His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of general urology in Cork, including kidney stone disease, prostate conditions, investigations for haematuria, urinary symptoms, and men’s health. He also provides specialist assessment and treatment for testosterone deficiency and male hormonal health.

Mr Hennessey works closely with general practitioners and aims to provide prompt access to specialist consultation, investigation, and treatment.
