Colorectal surgery focuses on the assessment and surgical treatment of conditions of the bowel and back passage, including cancers of the colon and rectum.

For best outcomes in colorectal cancer, treatment should be optimised according to tumour site, presentation, genetics and other risk factors. Our multidisciplinary team, which includes surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nutritionists, clinical researchers and specialist nurses, considers these factors when devising a treatment plan. The department performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bowel screening, flexible sigmoidoscopy and flexible cystoscopy.

The dedicated Endoscopy Suite provides care for patients, with procedures performed under local anaesthetic or sedation. After procedures are completed patients move to the recovery area where test results are discussed with consultants. The department gives a personal and efficient service, minimising the time taken and the patient anxiety associated with endoscopy investigations.
