Cork Cancer Centre at Bon Secours Hospital Cork has long-established multidisciplinary expertise in looking after breast cancer patients. A dedicated, purpose-built, specialist breast care unit, designed in accordance with HIQA guidelines, was formally opened in November 2009.
We provide a range of breast care services for both benign breast conditions and malignant diseases. There is an experienced multidisciplinary team comprising surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, breast care nurses, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and a wide range of allied practitioners in physiotherapy, lymphoedema care and onco-psychological support.
The service is both consultant-led and delivered. Appropriate patients have a triple assessment (examination, imaging with mammography or ultrasound, and a biopsy) delivered by a dedicated team of breast cancer consultants at daily clinics. In this way, breast cancer can be detected early and a personalised treatment plan devised.
