Colorectal surgery

Overview

Colorectal surgery is a branch of surgery that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the colon, rectum, and anus. This type of surgery is often performed to address a variety of issues, including:

• Colorectal Cancer: Removal of tumours or sections of the colon or rectum affected by cancer.
• Diverticulitis: Surgery may be required if diverticula (pouches in the colon) become inflamed or infected.
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Management of conditions like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, which may require surgical intervention.
• Bowel Obstruction: Surgery to relieve blockages in the intestines.
• Haemorrhoids: Surgical options for prolapsed or painful haemorrhoids.
• Fistulas and Abscesses: Treatment of abnormal connections between organs or areas of infection.
