Clinical Neurophysiology is the study of the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system.

Overview

Clinical Neurophysiology is the study of the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system.

It is generally divided into EEG (electroencephalography) and EMG (electromyography). EMG is further divided into 2 parts; nerve conduction studies and needle EMG.

These tests are used to help diagnose a multitude of neurological conditions including epilepsy, peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, motor neuron disease and muscle diseases.

Nerve conduction studies (NCS)

NCS are used in the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve entrapment, peripheral neuropathy and other nerve injuries of the upper and lower limbs (e.g. radial neuropathy, sciatic neuropathy)
