Bon Secours Health System has been on a significant journey since we took over the Barringtons hospital on George’s Quay in 2017. The site restrictions there have always meant our ambitions for the region have been to develop a state-of-the-art new hospital.
In 2021 we began on the journey towards a new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at a green field site in Towlerton, Ballysimon.
The new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick is currently under construction and is on track to open in 2025.
We officially announced our plan to build a state-of-the-art new Bon Secours Hospital in Towlerton, Ballysimon, Co. Limerick.
November 2021
We officially announced the design team responsible for the new Bon Secours Hospital in Towlerton, Ballysimon, Co. Limerick.
June 2022
Planning permission for the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick was granted.
February 2023
Construction began on the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick in February 2023 and was celebrated with a sod turning ceremony attended by the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar.
December 2023
The building developed by Kirkland Investments is adjacent to the new Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, began construction. The building will form part of the overall service offered at the campus.
September 2026 | First Patients
The new hospital welcomed it's first patients on Monday 15th September 2025. Jason Kenny, CEO Bon Secours Hospital Limerick said "This is a historic day for Limerick and the Mid-West as we welcome our very first patients to this world-class facility. From day one, patients will benefit from access to cutting-edge technology and expert care. This hospital will not only help transform healthcare delivery, but it will also create strong and sustainable career opportunities for hundreds of healthcare professionals in the region."
