Dr Malik Aizad Mumtaz is a Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician with dual specialist accreditation in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine.  He has more than 12 years of post-CCST experience as a Consultant Rheumatologist in the United Kingdom and Ireland, including over six years working at internationally recognised EULAR Centres of Excellence.

He completed a Newman Fellowship in Psoriatic Arthritis at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin, under Professor Oliver FitzGerald.  His research contributed to the development of the Composite Psoriatic Disease Activity Index (CPDAI), now used internationally in psoriatic arthritis research and clinical assessment, and culminated in the award of an MD.

Dr Mumtaz subsequently completed specialist fellowship training in musculoskeletal ultrasound under Professor David Kane. He holds both EULAR and EFSUMB certification in rheumatological musculoskeletal ultrasound and has particular expertise in detecting synovitis, performing ultrasound-guided procedures and managing inflammatory arthritis.

He was selected as a distinguished OMERACT Fellow and has received the Irish Society for Rheumatology Young Investigator of the Year Award, the Arthritis Ireland Innovation Award and an American College of Rheumatology Blue Ribbon Award.

Dr Mumtaz has published widely in leading international rheumatology journals and has presented his work at major international conferences across Europe and North America. His clinical interests include inflammatory arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthritis, connective tissue diseases, gout, polymyalgia rheumatica and large-vessel vasculitis, including giant cell arteritis.
