Bon Secours Hospital Limerick has introduced a new Breast Care Centre providing comprehensive outpatient assessment and care for patients with breast symptoms and conditions. The service offers consultant-led, rapid access to the latest diagnostic imaging, investigations and treatment pathways, delivered by a multidisciplinary team.

The service is designed for patients experiencing breast symptoms, as well as those referred for diagnostic imaging or specialist assessment.

The multidisciplinary team is led by Professor Shona Tormey, Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon.  Professor Tormey has over 26 years postgraduate clinical experience, including 15 years as a Consultant Breast and Breast Oncoplastic surgeon currently appointed to the Breast Unit and General Surgery Department, in University Hospital Limerick.

The Breast Care Centre service offers Triple Assessment which consists of a clinical assessment by a breast specialist followed by breast imaging. This includes a Tomosynthesis 3D mammogram (for patients aged 35 and older), ultrasound and, if an abnormality is detected, a needle biopsy.

Our Breast Cancer Care clinic offers consultant led clinical assessment, diagnostic imaging and surgical oncology services.  This includes breast oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery aimed at preserving and restoring the natural shape of the breast. Techniques offered include breast reduction, lipofiling and implant-based reconstruction following mastectomy. Onward referral to Medical and Radiation oncology can be facilitated if required.

Breast Imaging is available for specifically requested breast mammogram for woman 40+

Access to the service is by GP referral. If you have any concerns about your breast health, please speak to your GP to request an appointment.
