Prof. Sulaiman received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his Internal Medicine residency, Respiratory Higher Specialist training, and PhD in Ireland. Prof. Sulaiman subsequently completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine developing further skills and knowledge in sleep and ventilation medicine. He returned to Ireland in 2020 as a Consultant Respiratory Physician in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland as well as an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and adjunct Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
Prof Sulaiman is clinically experienced in all aspects of general Respiratory Medicine with sub-specialist interest in Sleep Medicine, Chronic Ventilation Support, Bronchoscopy and Pleural disease.
Prof Sulaiman’s research interests have focused on understanding how the lung microbiome interacts with the host immune response, thereby affecting health and lung disease. By studying how the lung microbiome alters the lung immune response Prof Sulaiman hopes to understand the pathophysiological changes that occur early in disease and may lead to new therapeutic targets.
