St Patrick’s Pontifical University, Maynooth (SPPU), and Bon Secours Health System have announced the expansion of their academic partnership through the introduction of a new suite of micro-credential modules designed to strengthen leadership capabilities in healthcare, with select modules focused on values-based leadership.
Launched in 2023 with a foundational module on Ethics in Healthcare, the partnership continues to offer high-quality, flexible learning opportunities tailored to the needs of busy professionals. This next phase reflects both institutions’ commitment to developing values-driven, reflective, ethically grounded leaders who can meet the evolving demands of Ireland’s healthcare sector.
Delivered in a micro-credential format, it is intended that the new modules will allow participants to progressively build formal qualifications, with clear pathways toward a postgraduate diploma or master’s degree. The programme is structured to support lifelong learning, combining academic rigour with immediate workplace relevance.
Alan Sharp, Group Chief Executive Officer at Bon Secours Health System, said: “At Bon Secours Health System, we recognise that strong, values-based leadership is essential to delivering compassionate and effective care. This deepening partnership with St Patrick’s Pontifical University supports our ongoing commitment to developing future leaders who are both professionally skilled and ethically grounded.”
Rev Dr Michael Shortall, Interim President of St Patrick’s Pontifical University, Maynooth, added: “Following the successful launch of our partnership focusing on Ethics in Healthcare, I’m delighted to join Alan Sharp and his team to announce this expanded initiative. At SPPU, we are committed to developing leaders who make a meaningful impact through principled, values-led service. The micro-credential model opens exciting new doors for learning that is both accessible and transformational.”
This expanded collaboration underscores a shared belief that leadership built on ethical and human values is critical in shaping the future of healthcare in Ireland. The new programmes will be delivered through the University’s Centre for Mission and Ministries and represent a significant step forward in advancing leadership formation within the sector.
Module registration details will follow soon.
