Fifteen Sisters of Bon Secours together with two Kerry-based Associates attended the Blessing and Official Opening of the Heritage Garden, along with members of staff (past and present), management and the Heritage Project Team. It was followed by Light Refreshments in Sr. Michael’s Café.
The Heritage Garden is the culmination of more than a years work by the Heritage Project Team made up of current and retired members of staff and consultants. Their objective was to oversee and deliver an engaging, informative, and permanent display that enhances the experience of staff, patients, and their families visiting the hospital, and commemorates the foundation story of the Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours, their foundation in Tralee, and the story of their ministry in Kerry with particular reference to Bon Secours Hospital Tralee. This initiative was generously funded by the Sisters of Bon Secours in commemoration of their Bicentenary – 200 years of providing Good Help to the Sick and Dying. It is a celebration of the enduring legacy of the Sisters of Bon Secours in Kerry since 1879.
This permanent means of marking their Bicentenary was achieved in close collaboration with the Sisters of Bon Secours, Historical Archives in the Congregation, the Diocese, the Local Library, and the Kerryman. It’s a beautiful symbol of the values and spirit of the Sisters, rooted in faith, service, and compassion.
