Dr Haytham Makki, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee delivered an educational session on how to maintain a healthy heart to the Scotia Probus group in the Brandon Hotel on Wednesday the 14th of June.
Dr Makki began his presentation entitled 'How to love your heart' by asking the group what their worst fears are when it comes to their heart health. Dr Makki explained how heart disease can affect men and women differently and how the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease can vary between men and women. He outlined the risk factors associated with Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, being overweight, inactivity and how simple lifestyle changes can improve heart health.
At the end of the presentation, the members of the Scotia Probus Group had the opportunity to ask Dr Makki any questions regarding heart health. It was an interactive and engaging discussion which Dr Makki enjoyed thoroughly and which was well received.
