Bon Secours Hospital Galway is proud to have hosted the recent General Practice Nurse and Advanced Nurse Practitioner Symposium on Saturday, 7th March 2026.
Taking place at The Connacht Hotel in Galway, the symposium brought together general practice nurses, advanced nurse practitioners and healthcare professionals from across the region for a day of relevant learning, expert discussion and valuable professional connection.
The symposium reflected Bon Secours Hospital Galway’s strong commitment to education and to supporting colleagues working across primary care. The programme featured excellent contributions from Ms Orla Heneghan Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Mr Manish Sachdeva Consultant Urologist, Ms Maria Scahill Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Mr Richard Osbourne Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Dr Waseem Ahmad Raja FRCP FACR M.Sc Rheumatology, Ms Catriona Keye Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and keynote speaker Dr Richard Hogan, Psychotherapist and Author.
A special highlight of the day was the conversation between Miriam O’Callaghan and Margaret McHugh, BonsConnect's Executive Programme Sponsor. Previously Bon Secours' Chief Nursing, Quality and Patient Safety Officer, Margaret handled the interview with warmth and skill, drawing out a thoughtful and engaging discussion that brought real depth to the programme. It was especially meaningful to hear Miriam speak so warmly in support of general practice nurses and advanced nurse practitioners on the eve of International Women’s Day.
Special thanks to Bon Secours Hospital Galway's GP Liaison Manager Maria Dooley for organising such a successful event, to Director of Nursing and Clinical Services Siobhán Judge for opening the symposium, and to Hospital CEO Henry Burrows for closing the event.
Bon Secours Hospital Galway also extends sincere thanks to the symposium sponsors, whose support helped make the event possible, Novo Nordisk, Pamex Limited Ireland, Consilient Health Ireland, Medical Protection Society, Benecol Healthcare Professionals UK and Ireland, Hidden Hearing Ireland, and GSK.
Overall, the General Practice Nurse and Advanced Nurse Practitioner Symposium was a strong reflection of Bon Secours Hospital Galway at its best, bringing people together, sharing expertise and reinforcing the hospital’s leadership in education, collaboration and excellence in care.
