Bon Secours Hospital Dublin introduces Paxman Scalp Cooling System to help preserve hair during chemotherapy
Bon Secours Hospital Dublin is delighted to announce the introduction of The Paxman Scalp Cooling System (the “cold cap”), a clinically proven, non-invasive medical device designed to help reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss.
Chemotherapy-induced hair loss is universally one of the most feared side-effects of chemotherapy treatment. The system works by cooling the scalp before, during, and after chemotherapy, reducing the exposure of hair follicles to chemotherapy drugs. The patient wears the cooling cap for 30 to 45 minutes prior to chemotherapy infusion, during chemotherapy infusion and for up to 90 mins post chemotherapy infusion. Research indicates that, patients may experience faster hair regrowth after treatment ends. The Paxman system is suitable for most patients but results are dependent on the individuals chemotherapy regime.
The system was purchased through a series of fundraising events, including the Four Peaks Challenge completed by staff last year and generous donations from consultants, supporters and staff. This addition reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to expanding patient options and comfort not only in oncology care but across all hospital services.
