Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon (Oculoplastic, Paediatric Specialist)
He was awarded a PhD from The University of Liverpool for his work on normal and abnormal visual development. Sean graduated with Honours in Surgery, Ophthalmology from University College Galway (NUIG) in 1992. He began his ophthalmic training in Waterford, Ireland in 1994 and progressed to The Royal Victoria Eye, Ear Hospital, Dublin, Ireland.
He then undertook Higher Surgical Training in Ophthalmology within the dedicated and highly structured programme in Liverpool. Here he worked with internationally acclaimed ophthalmologists in Medical Retina (Prof. Simon Harding), Surgical Retina (Prof. David Wong), Glaucoma (Mark Batterbury, Peter Wishart), Paediatrics & amp; Strabismus (Arvind Chandna, Ian Marsh). He then devoted the next four years to research (PhD, University of Liverpool) and a clinical fellowship in Paediatrics and Strabismus with Mr Arvind Chandna at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK).
After his PhD work he undertook an intensive Fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery and thereafter re-located to The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, San Francisco, USA. Here he undertook a Paediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship (Dr. William Good, MD) and further post-doctoral research (Dr. Anthony Norcia, PhD). He returned to a consultant ophthalmic post in Liverpool UK where he practised Oculoplastic and Paediatric Ophthalmic surgery from 2005 – 2008 before commencing his current post.Back to top
