Biography

Suzanne graduated from UCD Medical School in 1992. In 1996 she went to the Rosie Maternity in Cambridge from where she won a place on the East Anglia training scheme. After developing an interest in pelvic floor problems she undertook a 2 year clinical research post at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles St., looking at connective tissues in the pelvic floor. She subsequently trained in Southampton and Basingstoke before starting her first consultant post at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in 2002. She ran the high risk antenatal clinic there and set up a dedicated specialist multidisciplinary pelvic floor service including conservative and surgical treatments for women with incontinence and prolapse.

In 2006 she received a call from home and started her second consultant post in the Unified Maternity Services in Cork, working at the Bons, Erinville and St Finbarrs prior to the opening of CUMH.

She specialises in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a subspecialty interest in Urogynaecology. She runs the Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury clinic at CUMH where all women are seen and scanned after third degree tears. Her research interests include specialist physiotherapy for pelvic pain, pelvic floor injury and it’s prevention during childbirth, and robotic surgery for prolapse. She has been guest speaker at many international meetings

As Associate Dean of specialist training for O and G at the RCPI, she is closely involved in training our future specialists. She was also recently elected Chair of the Continence Foundation of Ireland.
