Car Parking
The Bon Secours Hospital Dublin car parking is operated by Euro Car Park. Pay and display machines are located at various points around the car park and it is also possible to pay via parkingtag.ieCharges apply of €2.50 per hour or €15 for a 24hr period
There are drop off / set down spaces located at the front of the hospital if you are being dropped to the hospital for your procedure.Parking for those with mobility issues is available to the right of the front door of the hospital. A valid disability car parking sticker must be displayed.
My GP has referred me to the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin for a Direct Access Endoscopy but I have heard nothing.
Once your referral has been received you will receive a text confirming this within 24hrs. If you have not received a text from us, this may mean;
Your referral has been sent directly to a consultant by your GP
or
Your referral has not yet been sent to us
Please contact your GP to reconfirm that the referral has been sent. If your referral has been sent directly to a consultant, you will need to contact the consultant directly. Details are available in the consultant section of this page.
What time should I arrive for my procedure?
Please refer to your appointment confirmation letter and arrive at the time indicated. If you arrive early you will need to wait in your car until your appointment time.
I am attending for a Direct Access Endoscopy, do I need to fast beforehand?
This will be dependant upon the procedure you are having
Gastroscopy
You will need to fast for 6 hrs beforehand from food and drink – please follow the instructions in your pack that was sent out
Sigmoidoscopy
You will need to fast for 6 hrs beforehand from food and drink – please follow the instructions in your pack that was sent out
You will do the preparation for this procedure in the hospital.
Colonoscopy
You will fast from food for 24 hours prior to your procedure and from liquids 4 hours before your procedure.
Please follow the moviprep instructions and information on fasting that was sent out in your pack.
When can I expect to receive the results of my endoscopy procedure?
Normally you will receive a copy of your endoscopy report on the day of your procedure. A copy of the report will also be sent to yout GP. If you are attending your GP within 1 week of your procedure, please bring your copy of endoscopy report with you to your appointment. Any blood or pathology results will be sent to your GP within 4 – 6 weeks.
Can I drive home after my endoscopy procedure?
If you have had sedation you will not be allowed to drive home and must arrange for someone to collect you approx. 4 hours after the arrival time stated on your letter. You will be need to be collected in person from the Endoscopy unit.
If you opt to not have sedation – you can drive home after your procedure.
Will my insurance cover my endoscopy procedure?
This will be dependant upon the terms of your policy. You will need to contact your insurance company to confirm you are covered. They will ask you for a copy of a code for your procedure.

I don’t have medical insurance; can I pay for an endoscopy myself?
Yes - you can. The cost will be dependant upon the procedure you are having.
Colonoscopy - €1250
Gastroscopy - €810
Sigmoidoscopy - €810
Colonoscopy & Gastroscopy - €1550
These prices excl. the cost of any scans.
Will I need to be screened for COVID prior to my procedure?
No – unless you are receiving a General Anaesthetic for your procedure. You will be advised if a covid screen is required at the time of booking an appointment.
All patients will receive a call from our team to complete a COVID questionnaire by phone 24 hours before their procedure date. You will be asked the same questions again when you arrive in the unit on the day of your procedure.
