The UCC Medical Society with the help of Bon Secours Hospital Cork, successfully held a very fun 2-day event whereby young children from the Cork community brought their stuffed animals to the “Teddy Bear Hospital” to have them examined by student doctors, x-rayed, bandaged, and clinically repaired! The annual programme is designed to help young ones become more comfortable with visits to their doctors and when they are in the hospital!
The event was put on by UCC medical students in the campus student centre! Primary schools from all over Cork brought over 800 children (and 800 teddy bears) to participate in the make shift hospital! Along with the teddy bear care, there was face painting, colouring, fresh fruit, and other activities for the smallies to enjoy as well! Bon Secours Hospital Cork provided necessary funding and medical supplies in partnership with the UCC students to ensure the event’s success!
A special thank you to Linda O Reilly (Staff member in Bon Secours Hospital Tralee) for introducing us to her son Cathal, who is a medical student at UCC and the person who, with the help of many fellow students, led the Teddy Bear Hospital project this year!
