Biography
Andrew was appointed Group Mission Co-ordinator at Bon Secours Health System in June 2016. He sits on the Senior Executive Team, and on the Board of BSHS as an ex-officio member.
After graduating from St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 1992, Andrew spent ten years working as a Catholic Priest in the Diocese of Kerry, in a wide variety of Pastoral and Governance roles.
In 2003, having left Ministry, Andrew studied communications for a year, combining courses in St. Patrick’s Maynooth and Dublin City University (DCU).
Andrew joined Respond Housing Association, Ireland’s largest Housing Association, a not for profit organisation with Franciscan roots, taking on the Facilities Management Role of its flagship regeneration development in Blackpool Cork. Two years later, Andrew moved to Area Manager for Cork, and in 2008, Andrew moved to a Regional Management role, managing all aspects of the business, for 1000+ units of accommodation, serving the poor and marginalised in this national management role.
Andrew joined the Senior Management Team of Bon Secours Hospital Cork, Ireland’s largest private hospital, as Hospital Mission Leader, in December 2013. As the first lay Mission Leader in the Bon Secours Health System, and in Ireland, he saw the role as the perfect way to bring together his lives of Ministry and Management, as he stepped into this uncharted territory.
In his current role as Group Mission Co-ordinator, Andrew has responsibility for leading, facilitating and co-ordinating the development and implementation of the Mission, Values and formation needs within the Health System (BSHS). He sits at meetings of the Board of Directors to educate, influence and promote integration of Mission and Values as appropriate. He supports the CEO and Executive team to align our Catholic Mission, with our Vision, Strategy and within the everyday opportunities and constraints of private healthcare.
Andrew is passionate about the Ministry of Bon Secours. He introduced the first Mission Interests Policy to Bon Secours Health System, and integrated this in the organisational governance, and management objective setting. He introduced terms of reference and a governance structure for the BSHS Community Initiative Funding program, and oversaw the transition to a lay team of Mission Leaders. Of late, he has introduced the Foundation in Catholic Healthcare Leadership program, in association with BSHSI.
