The Bon Secours Hospital Dublin is at the forefront of modern gynaecological treatment. The team of five consultants gynaecologists work closely with the excellent nursing and support staff team to ensure the very highest standard of patient centred care with each consultant providing their own skill set in benign gynaecology.

Dr Iram Bassit, Dr Kushal Chummun, Dr Yahya Kamal, Dr Edgar Mocanu and Dr Hassan Rajab provide medical and surgical management of a spectrum of benign conditions, including but not limited to:

Biography

 

Dr Iram Basit completed her Specialist Training in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2013 in Ireland. She  previously worked in the The Coombe Women's and Infants University Hospital, The National Maternity Hospital and The Rotunda and was lead Clinician for Outpatient Hysteroscopy Clinic in Coombe Hospital. 

Dr Basit is fully trained in hysteroscopic procedures and laparoscopic Surgeries.

Biography

Dr Chummun provides a wide range of benign gynaecology service including but not limited to menstrual dysfunction, pelvic pain, fertility issues, ovarian cysts, fibroid, endometriosis, prolapse, urinary incontinence, abnormal smears, cancer risk reducing surgery.

His area of expertise is minimally invasive gynaecology surgery which provides less pain, quicker recovery and shorter hospital stay.

Dr Chummun qualified in UCD in 2004. He has successfully completed his specialist training in the highly competitive Irish training scheme and has worked in a number of hospitals across the country before being appointed as a permanent Consultant in the Rotunda & Connolly Hospital.

He has a fellowship in advance pelvic surgery and gynaecology laparoscopy and is a certified robotic gynaecology surgeon. As part of his dedication to gynaecology and especially minimally invasive surgery he has taken courses and observership programs in Detroit, Sydney and London. Dr Chummun is a Honorary Clinical Lecturer with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Biography

Dr Yahya Kamal has worked in Ireland since 1996. He is a fellow of Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists in London U.K. He has over 30 years of experience in obstetrics and gynaecology. He obtained his medical degree in 1989, from the Dow Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan. He has been a member and trainer of the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.

Dr. Kamal spent five years working as a Specialist Registrar in several teaching hospitals in Ireland and obtained CSCST – certificate of satisfactory completion of specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He has worked  in Beaumont Hospital Dublin, Coombe Women’s University Hospital Dublin, National Maternity Hospital Dublin, Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar, Erinville Maternity Hospital Cork, South Infirmary Victoria Hospital Cork, Mid-Western Regional Hospital Limerick, Louth County Hospital Dundalk and in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, Co. Louth.

Dr. Kamal has been an Assistant Master at both the Coombe Women’s University Hospital and Rotunda Hospital, between 2008 and 2010. He was then appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda and the Louth County Hospital Dundalk in July 2010, and served as a Lead Colposcopist at the North East Regional Colposcopy Unit Dundalk from January 2010. He has been working as a Consultant Gynaecologist in the Rotunda Hospital Dublin since May 2011. Dr Kamal is actively involved in Irish National Cervical Screening Programme and he is one of the leading consultants at the Colposcopy Unit, Rotunda Hospital Dublin. He performs two Colposcopy Clinics per week at the Rotunda Hospital Dublin and private Colposcopy in his rooms in Hermitage Medical Clinic Dublin.

Dr Kamal has private practice privileges at Hermitage Medical Clinic Dublin, Bon Secours Private Hospital Dublin and Charter Medical Private Hospital Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Dr Kamal has a wide-ranging specialist interests in gynaecology include laparoscopic surgery, endometrial ablation procedures, hysteroscopic surgery, urinary incontinence, cosmetic vulvo-vaginal surgery and prolapse repair. He has a diverse range of experience in general gynaecology, menstrual disorders, colposcopy, urogynaecology, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, adolescent gynaecology and peri-menopausal care.

Biography

Prof Mocanu is a Consultant Gynaecologist and an RCOG Certified Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. He graduated in Medicine from Iuliu Hatieganu Medical University, Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, Romania in 1993 and completed his specialist training (CCST) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2005. He holds an MD degree from Trinity College, Dublin and obtained a Diploma in Ethics of Medical Research and Biotechnology from Keele University, UK. He is a Fellow of the RCOG  and RCPI and an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.  

 

Areas of Interest

Minimal invasive surgery (hysteroscopic and laparoscopic), management of fibroids, uterine anomalies, endometriosis, tubal disease, benign ovarian pathology and postmenopausal bleeding.  Investigation and treatment of male and female infertility, ovulation induction and IUI/ IVF.

Biography

Dr Rajab has 14 years' experience in both obstetrics and gynaecology. He has been working as a Permanent Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at RCSI Group Hospitals, Beaumont, Rotunda and the Lourdes Hospitals since 2012.

Dr Rajab has a wide range of interests in general benign gynaecology, pelvic floor reconstructive surgery and urogynecology. He had sub-speciality fellowship in minimal access and pelvic floor surgery including urogynaecology having completed his training in South London Hospitals.

Dr Rajab’s training includes expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgery such as laparoscopic hysterectomies, myomectomies, ovarian cystectomies and advanced laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis and laparoscopic risk reduction surgery for at risk groups, in addition to general surgical skills required to undertake the safest and most effective gynaecological treatment available for most of gynaecological conditions such as menorrhagia and infertility

Dr Rajab was the Lead of pelvic floor clinic, pelvic floor surgery and urogynaecology at the Lourdes Hospital, he has the expertise in managing all types of pelvic floor prolapse, recurrent prolapse and mesh surgeries, surgical treatment of precedentia and surgical treatment of vault prolapse such as sacrospinous fixation and abdominal vault suspensions and he has the expertise in managing different types of female urinary incontinence such as TVTs, TVTOs for stress , and Botox injection for non medically responsive urge incontinence.

Dr Rajab is a certified colposcopist, has the expertise in managing all types of smear abnormality cases, precancerous cervical diseases and vulval diseases.
