Pathology Department, Bon Secours Hospital Galway
The Pathology Department in Bon Secours Hospital Galway offers a wide range of diagnostic tests as an aide in the detection and treatment of disease.
This is a multi-disciplinary laboratory covering the following:
Clinical Biochemistry
Haematology / Coagulation
Microbiology
Blood Transfusion
A walk-in phlebotomy service is available from 08.00 – 16.00 Monday - Friday.
Samples for analysis are also accepted from General Practitioners.
Specimens should not be delivered outside of opening hours without prior arrangement.
Quality:
Blood Transfusion is accredited to ISO15189 (Reg. 229MT), and all other disciplines are quality controlled by participation in International Accredited External Quality Assurance Schemes, under the direction of the Quality Manager.
Turnaround time:
The results of routine examinations are normally available within 24 hours. More specialised investigations may take longer.
Results:
Results are posted to Clinicians in our hospital in Galway as soon as they are available.
It is the policy of the Pathology Department to telephone the requesting clinician with all urgent or critical results.
Results of Laboratory tests will be made available to patients only through their Consultant or General Practitioners, and not directly from the laboratory.
Costs:
Costs will be supplied on request.
Opening Hours:
09:00 – 17.00 Monday – Friday.
A 24/7 service is available for inpatients.
