Rheumatology is a sub-specialty in internal medicine and pediatrics, devoted to diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases.

Biography

Dr Gibbs is a consultant in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine and he has been practicing in Galway since 2007. He is a Galway graduate and did his training and research on the Irish Specialist Registrar Scheme in Rheumatology.

He is a clinical rheumatologist working in full time private practice.  He has a special interest in inflammatory arthritis, soft tissue and sports injuries, fibromyalgia and back pain.  He is involved in a busy infusion unit and provides a wide ranging joint and soft tissue injection service.

He runs his practice on the rapid access model to ensure all patients are seen in a timely manner.

He is involved in medical teaching, writes regularly for the medical press and he is a current member of the Irish Society for Rheumatology.

Biography

Dr. Kavanagh is a consultant rheumatologist who has been in practice in Galway since 1999. He’s a Galway graduate and did his training in Belfast, Addenbooke’s hospital in Cambridge, and in Norwich.

He is a clinical rheumatologist and as part of his clinical service helps run a busy infusion unit and joint injection service. He has a special interest in osteoporosis diagnosis and management and in the management of musculoskeletal symptoms in musicians. He is also an avid user of technology in supporting his patients and has spoken widely about his use of social media in doctor and patient education. He is also supervisor for medical students from NUIG.

Dr. Kavanagh is also the medical director of the Bone Density Unit, Bon Secours Hospital, Galway

He also writes regularly for the medical press, runs an annual medical conference for curious doctors, and is a former president of the Irish Society for Rheumatology.
