We are delighted to support Recovery Haven through our Hospital's Community Initiative Fund.

Owen McCarthy, Head of Mission at Bon Secours Hospital Tralee presenting Siobhan Mac Sweeney, Manager of Recovery Haven Kerry with a cheque of €2,000 from the Hospital’s Community Initiative Fund.

1 in 2 people will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime and it is estimated that over the next 10 years the numbers of cancer cases will double. Recovery Haven Kerry’s mission is to deliver caring and therapeutic services to those dealing with cancer, their families and carers to help them feel better, think better and live a healthy life with their family and within their community.  Its services are free and that allows those experiencing financial challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis to access support. Especially due the pandemic the majority of its service users would be in the high-risk group so its outdoor and online programmes are open to all individuals and family members dealing with cancer within our community and have a greater significance due to the recent restrictions at reducing the isolation people may feel due to their illness. Recovery Haven Kerry offers support services to those who would like to talk or seek advice. It offers a confidential listening service, emotional support, practical advice free to their service users.  This Community Initiative Funding will be used for the direct delivery of support programmes to the service users of Recovery Haven Kerry. These include outdoor wild swimming programme and walking programme in line with COVID-19 restrictions and online classes of Pilates, yoga, stretch and balance, mindfulness and stress management.
