The Alzheimer Society of Ireland's Mobile Information Service to visit Bon Secours Hospital Tralee

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland provides a Mobile Information Service which will visit the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee on the 4th September 2018. This service aims to provide information and support for people with dementia and their families.

With a growing number of people living with dementia, more than 4000 new cases each year, there has never been a greater need to raise awareness of alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Ms Kathleen McEvoy, who is a patient in the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee, was diagnosed with dementia in April 2014. Her daughter and carer, Linda McEvoy, spoke about her experience with dementia and what she has learned along the way.

“I have been through the full circle and each day brings a new challenge. Since mom was first diagnosed, I have learned a lot about the disease. I now know how to spot when things are not quite right with mom who also suffers from secondary illnesses related to dementia. She has difficulties with swallowing, chest infections and agitation to name just a few”

Linda is happy to see that the Mobile Information Service is visiting the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee and sees this as a point of contact for carers of alzheimer’s and dementia patients in Tralee and surrounding areas.

“Dementia can be a disheartening and devastating disease for the person themselves and their family, this is a great opportunity for carers to speak about any concerns or questions they may have. It would be beneficial for carers to speak about how they are coping and to discuss the support services which are available”

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland’s Mobile Information Service will visit the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee on September 4th from 11am-4pm and will be located in the main car park at the front of the Hospital. Dementia Advisors, Amy Murphy and Vanessa Bradbury, will be on hand to provide information and support about memory loss, how a diagnosis is made, managing day to day with dementia as well as support and services available for people with dementia and their families.
