Vascular Surgey

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, or arteries, veins and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction.

Varicose veins and spider veins are a very common condition treated by our Surgeons. For many years the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins involved surgical stripping.  New minimally invasive techniques like EVLT or Endo Venous Laser Therapy and Foam Sclerotherapy have evolved to provide a better patient experience and  quicker recovery following treatment of  varicose veins.

Our Vascular Surgery Department delivers cutting edge advanced management options to patients for the treatment of varicose veins. Our objective is to provide a safe, effective and minimally invasive procedure with an emphasis on cosmetic outcome for our patients.

Minimally invasive procedures provided at Bon Secours Hospital Tralee avoid painful groin incision and stripping of the truncal veins. These techniques can be applied to all age groups and to patients with medical co-morbidities (i.e. when other medical conditions are co-occurring). In younger patients, this offers quicker recovery and in older patients, a chance to remove painful venous problem causing phlebitis and ulcers without major surgery.

The interventions offered by our vascular team are patient and disease specific to best fit our patient’s need, lifestyle and associated conditions.

The majority of treatments are provided on a walk in-walk out day case basis.
