The ENT department at Bon Secours Hospital Tralee provides a full range of ENT procedures for both adult and paediatric patients suffering from ear, nose and throat (ENT) conditions.

The ENT department is led by Consultant ENT Surgeon Mr Ishteaque Ahmed. Mr Ahmed provides a comprehensive evaluation and medical/surgical treatment of both adult and paediatric patients suffering from ear, nose and throat (ENT) conditions.

Adenoidectomy

Adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove the adenoids. Adenoids are a mass of lymphoid tissue located behind the nasal passages. All surgical procedures have risks and potential complications

Biography

Ishteaque Ahmed is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee and has completed his Specialist training in both the UK and in Ireland.

Mr Ahmed has partcipated in publications, research projects and presentations; including presenting his work at the Munster ENT Group and Irish Otolaryngology society meeting and the Annual Meeting of the British Association of Paediatric Otolaryngology.

Mr Ahmed’s teaching experience includes; lecturing to third and fourth year medical students at Cork University Hospital. Mr Ahmed regularly holds presentations for the para medical staff of the HSE, which includes lectures to the district and community nurses.

 

Areas of Interest

Mr Ahmed a specialist interest in Nasal conditions and all aspects of General ENT Surgery.

Mr. Brian Moriarty

Biography

Mr Moriarty began his studies in medicine at the University College of Cork.  Following graduation, Mr Moriarty trained in General surgery in County Cork before carrying out his specialty training in Otolaryngology in Manchester and Birmingham. Mr Moriarty also completed a residency program in Otolaryngology in Ontario, Canada. Mr Moriarty undertook a Fellowship in ear pathology and a Clinical Fellowship in head and neck surgery at the University Hospital of Toronto. Mr Moriarty completed a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology at the Hospital for Sick Children Toronto.

Mr Moriarty is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Mr Moriarty is also a member of the Academy of Medicine of Ireland.  Mr Moriarty has taken numerous opportunities to teach throughout his career, being a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the University College of Cork. Mr Moriarty is a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.

Specialist Interest

Mr Moriarty has a broad interest in all aspects of Otolaryngology with numerous publications in peer reviewed journals regarding all areas of Otolaryngology.  Mr Moriarty participates in the Maintenance of Professional Competence program of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and the Professional Competence scheme of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.
