We are delighted to be able to support Foodshare Kerry through our Community Initiative Fund. Foodshare Kerry has been granted €10,000 to date through this fund and will receive another €10,000 between 2018 and 2019. We spoke with Robert Carey, Area & Programme Manager of North East and West Kerry development about this project and their plans for the future.

Here is what Robert had to say;

‘Foodshare Kerry was set up in 2015 to tackle both food waste and food poverty. We collect food from food producers and redistribute it to charities, providing food for 34 charities in the County. At a project meeting, we were discussing the issue of gaps in our funding and were trying to figure out ways in which we could source finance when it was suggested that the Bon Secours Tralee had a facility to support community projects.  The funding provided by the Bon Secours Community Initiative fund has contributed towards the purchase of our van and will contribute to its running costs in 2018. This will allow us to continue to distribute to existing charities and also to explore new areas’.
