Swiftqueue in association with the Bon Secours Hospital Cork Oncology Day Ward won the eHealth/Digital Health Award last Thursday night. The annual awards event is a platform for the MedTech industry to showcase the state-of-the-art medical technologies and demonstrate the valuable contribution the industry is making to healthcare in Ireland.
The Swiftqueue entry was based on the solution they implemented in conjunction with the Oncology Day ward in Cork to automate the booking process into a streamlined system ensuring patients were at the centre of the solution design.
The solution reduces administrative effort by coordinating the Pharmacy, Oncology, Phlebotomy, Nursing and Administrative functions to improve the patient flow on the day of treatment. Patient communication is also improved by the online access to the planned treatments and the instant / urgent communications capability of the platform.
The system was implemented very quickly in Cork due to the direct inputs from the ward CNM Ms Ger Markey and Oncology Consultant Dr Conleth Murphy.
To date over 120 care pathways have been implemented on the system which has has transformed the running of the day ward. The system is used for planning, patient scheduling and to instantly identify available capacity to treat more patients. Planning meetings are reduced to an hour per week rather than several hours on several days per week that it had been in the past.
The oncology day ward and pharmacy now have appointment visibility months ahead since the Swiftqueue platform has gone live which has improved scheduling and ability of pharmacy to plan their capacity in conjunction with inpatient and day wards .
