Bon Secours Hospital, Cork Catering Department - All Ireland Champions

We are delighted to announce that Bon Secours Hospital Cork Catering Department won The National Food Safety and Hygiene Award for Healthcare on Friday, 27th September last. This is a prestigious award and it is a major achievement for our Catering Department to be selected as the top performers in Ireland in what is a very competitive field.

Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA) exists to facilitate and promote the use of innovative certification programmes to add value to organisations.  The EIQA conduct over 3000 unannounced audits on an annual basis nationally and internationally and from these audits they will nominate the best and highest performing sites, measuring their commitment and practical understanding of Food Hygiene and Safety.  The audit process is based on 4 key elements:

  • Planning & Commitment
  • Approach
  • Performance and Review
  • Structure and Services

Successful completion of the EIQA audit enables the hospital to proudly display the Q Mark Certification which provides our Patients and Customers with the assurance that our Hospital have been independently assessed and successfully certified as having Superior Standards of Food Safety and Hygiene.

In March of this year, the Catering Team, led by Thelma Farrelly were audited by the EIQA team and  were awarded the Emerald Standard (Q Mark Certification) from the EIQA for Food Safety & Hygiene.  Following on from there and on completion of a lengthy submission process that was independently judged outside of the EIQA  remit, the Catering Team were shortlisted for the National Food Safety & Hygiene Awards which was awarded last Friday evening.

Congratulations and well done to all involved.
