On Saturday 3rd of February The Bon Secours Galway hosted their 3rd annual theatre conference, this year focusing on urology, titled ‘Urology- Meet the Experts’. The event was supported by M.E.D. Surgical, Teckno, Cook Medical and Boston Scientific.

We were delighted to have an attendance of over 100 nurses representing Bon Secours Hospital Galway, Galway University Hospital, Galway Clinic, Portiuncla Hospital, St. Johns’ Limerick, Wheatfield Clinic Waterford, Mater Cork and our sister hospital Bon Secours Hospital Tralee.

Opening the conference was Director of Nursing Ms. Mairead Carr and Medical Director Prof. John McCabe.

The day was filled with lots of learning opportunities with six Urology Consultants presenting on various urology procedures on the day, Mr. Killian Walsh BPH Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia , Mr. Syed Jaffry Lasers in Urology, Mr. Gareth Durkan Trans-perineal Prostate Biopsies, Mr. Frank D’Arcy Holmium laser and stone removal, Mr. Paddy O’Malley Robotic surgery for prostate cancer and Mr. Eamonn Rogers Urology nurse specialists.

Teresa Donnelly, guest speaker provided learning through reflection of her own nursing experience.

As part of final remarks there was a raffle of prizes sponsored by local businesses including, Salthill hotel, Walshs' pharmacy Oranmore, The Connacht Hotel, Galway Crystal, The Huntsmann, The Clayton hotel, Woodies, Joyce’s Oranmore and Duggan’s Renmore.

The day concluded with closing remarks from Theatre Clinical Facilitator Helena Treacy who thanked the speakers and the work of the porters and catering departments for the smooth running of the day. She also complemented the work of The Bon Secours Galway in support of education and drew specific attention Maira Dooley Marketing Manager, Mary A. Walsh Nurse Practice Development Co-ordinator, Sean Duignan Theatre Co-ordinator and Mary Doody Theatre Manager for the support in organising such a successful event.
