Training and Education
Dr Deirdre Tobin, an honours graduate of Trinity College, Dublin was awarded the prestigious Paediatric Dental Health Prize in her final undergraduate year. After one year in community and general dental practice, Dr Tobin pursued the training pathway in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in England.
Work History
Building on the training pathway followed in the UK, Dr Tobin was appointed Registrar with the Oral and Maxillofacial Department in University College Dental School and Hospital, Cork. There, working with Professor Duncan Sleeman, she continued her professional development and was awarded the specialist Fellowship of Oral Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
In 1999, Dr Tobin founded her own Independent Oral Surgery Practice. This is located at Barrington's Hospital. Upon creation of the Specialist Register of Oral Surgeons, Dr Deirdre Tobin was registered as an accredited Oral Surgeon in 1999 by the Dental Council of Ireland.
Other Information
Dr Tobin accepts referrals from general dental medical practitioners. The practice treats patients with impacted wisdom teeth, requiring orthodontic surgery and presenting with soft tissue lesions/diseases. The Practice is completely independent of the HSE (Public Health System).
As an accredited specialist Oral Surgeon, Dr Tobin is exempt from pre-certification with all insurance companies. Dr Tobin is a fully participating provider with VHI, Laya,MPF, NTPF/SDU and GloHealth and is a standard (or part-participating) provider with Aviva and GMA. The Oral Surgery Practice is managed by Dr Paul O'Dwyer BDS - a general dental surgeon.
