
Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons are delighted to announce that Mr. Emmet Cullen, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon has joined the surgical team at the Limerick Hospital.
Mr. Emmet Cullen has worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since returning from a senior clinical fellowship in arthroplasty at St. Albans and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore in 2018. He attended UCD on a rugby sports scholarship and graduated from medical school in 2002. He completed orthopaedic training through the Irish Healthcare system and RCSI in 2016/2017 (CCHST). He has published widely in orthopaedics with extensive postgraduate research that includes a doctorate of medicine from REMEDI/Galway University (osteoarthritis and stem cell research), honours by thesis in healthcare informatics from UCD, several book chapters, seminars and peer reviewed papers with presentations of his work at national and international meetings. Mr. Cullen has won several awards for his research, winning the Cappagh National Orthopaedic Prize, the Merlin Gold medal at the Freyer meeting at NUIG, the best basic science research paper in orthopaedics at the Atlantic meeting and the best clinical research paper in orthopaedics.
Mr. Cullen is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a member of the Irish Orthopaedic Association, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, the European Research Society and the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy. He uses minimally invasive surgical techniques in joint replacement and has incorporated enhanced recovery protocols in his practice.
