Transition from student nurse to staff nurse can be an anxious time for new graduates, without the right support systems in place. Here in the Bon Secours Hospital Galway we are delighted to offer a programme that will support you making that transition and allow you to excel in your career, in your chosen field. Through a programme focused on your effective performance as part a team, enhancing your clinical knowledge and skills, development of effective communication skills and support with your professional development including self care and resilience your transition from novice to expert will be facilitated and supported.
Program structure
2 year program with an opportunity to continue employment within the Bon Secours Hospital while being support to undertake education relevant to your area of work.
Commence October 2022 (HSE salary scale for preregistration nurse)
Salary for remainder of programme registered Nurse in accordance with HSE scales
Annual leave as per registered nurse agreement
Full time hours each week and rostered to all shifts
Clinical Experience
Rotations to ensure you gain a wide variety of experience in Medical/Surgical wards, Theatre, Cath lab, Cardiac and Acute Care Unit
Theoretical and Professional development
New graduates are supernumerary (with a mentor) for a period determined by your experience
Initial orientation to the hospital by Clinical Facilitator/ Nurse Practice Development Coordinator
Rotation between areas every 3 months in the first year
Multiple mandatory training days provided.
Portfolio available for all graduates incorporating clinical competencies for specific areas and professional development in line with the NMBI domains of competence.
Learning pack for specialist areas
Mentor/buddy system on the ward
Supported by Clinical Facilitator
